Episode of Obstacles to Gautama; Gaṇeśa’s Appearing Through Misguided Worship
गणेश उवाच । प्रसन्नोऽस्मि वरं ब्रूत यूयं किं करवाण्यहम् । तदीयं तद्वचः श्रुत्वा ऋषयस्तेऽबुवंस्तदा
gaṇeśa uvāca | prasanno'smi varaṃ brūta yūyaṃ kiṃ karavāṇyaham | tadīyaṃ tadvacaḥ śrutvā ṛṣayaste'buvaṃstadā
Gaṇeśa said: “I am pleased. Speak your boon—what shall I do for you?” Hearing his words, the sages then replied.

It highlights anugraha (grace): when devotion is sincere, divine beings aligned with Shiva’s order respond compassionately, inviting the devotee to state a dharmic intention rather than acting from ego or demand.
Gaṇeśa, as part of Shiva’s saguna (personal) divine family, becomes a channel for Shiva’s grace; the verse models how devotees approach sacred tirthas and Jyotirliṅga worship—through reverence, request, and surrender to divine will.
A practical takeaway is to begin worship with Gaṇeśa-vandana and then state a clear sankalpa (intention) before Linga-pūjā—ideally accompanied by japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” cultivating humility and receptivity to grace.
