O brāhmaṇas, there an extraordinary grand festival arose. All of them, overwhelmed with joy, performed the kīrtana—devotional singing—of Maheśa (Lord Śiva).

It highlights bhakti as an immediate purifier: collective glorification of Maheśa generates uplifting joy that turns the mind toward Śiva, the Pati (Lord) who grants grace and liberation.
In the Kotirudra context (Jyotirliṅga-centered devotion), kīrtana is a primary mode of Saguna Śiva worship—praising the Lord’s names, qualities, and sacred presence associated with the liṅga.
Nāma-kīrtana (repetition/singing of Śiva’s names) as congregational devotion; it can be paired with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and simple liṅga-upacāra worship.
