अवंतीस्थ-ब्राह्मणकथा तथा तृतीय-ज्योतिर्लिङ्गोपाख्यान-प्रस्तावना
Avanti Brahmin Narrative and Prelude to the Third Jyotirliṅga
सूर्यं दृष्ट्वा यथा याति संक्षयं सर्वशस्तमः । तथैव च शिवं दृष्ट्वा तत्सैन्यं विननाश ह
sūryaṃ dṛṣṭvā yathā yāti saṃkṣayaṃ sarvaśastamaḥ | tathaiva ca śivaṃ dṛṣṭvā tatsainyaṃ vinanāśa ha
Just as darkness of every kind is destroyed on seeing the sun, so too, on beholding Lord Śiva, that opposing army perished utterly.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
The verse equates Śiva’s darśana with the sun’s light: as light ends darkness, Śiva’s presence dissolves tamas—fear, delusion, and hostile forces—pointing to Him as Pati, the revealer who removes ignorance and grants inner clarity.
It supports Saguna-upāsanā through darśana: approaching Śiva in a worshipful form (such as the Liṅga or a manifest form) is described as spiritually transformative, where the devotee’s obstacles and negativity are ‘burned away’ by His auspicious radiance.
Practice daily Śiva-darśana through Liṅga-pūjā while repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and cultivate a meditation on Śiva as inner light that dispels tamas—like sunrise dissolving night.
