आवरणपूजावर्णनम् (Āvaraṇa-pūjā-varṇanam) — Description of Enclosure/Layered Worship
एकरुद्रन्तथैशाने त्रिमूर्तिं वह्निदिग्दले । श्रीकण्ठं नैरृते वायौ शिखण्डीशं समर्चयेत्
ekarudrantathaiśāne trimūrtiṃ vahnidigdale | śrīkaṇṭhaṃ nairṛte vāyau śikhaṇḍīśaṃ samarcayet
One should worship Ekarudra in the Īśāna (north‑east) direction; Trimūrti in the direction of Agni (south‑east); Śrīkaṇṭha in the Nairṛta (south‑west); and Śikhaṇḍīśa in the direction of Vāyu (north‑west).
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
It teaches ordered, mindful worship of Śiva’s saguna manifestations in the sacred directions, training the devotee to see Pati (Śiva) as the indwelling Lord who pervades all space and thereby purifying pasha-bound perception toward liberation.
The verse prescribes saguna upāsanā—invoking named Rudra-forms in specific quarters—as an aid to linga worship, where the single, formless Supreme is approached through consecrated forms and ritual orientation (dik-krama) for steadiness of devotion.
Perform dikpūjā: face and honor each direction, mentally place (nyāsa) the indicated Rudra-form there, and offer upacāras (water, flowers, incense) with japa of Śiva-mantra—commonly the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya)—as part of linga pūjā.
