Description of the Conduct and Daily Discipline of Saṃnyāsa
शुद्धस्फटिकसंकाशं द्विनेत्रं वरदाभये । दधानं शिवसद्भावमेवात्मनि मनोहरम्
śuddhasphaṭikasaṃkāśaṃ dvinetraṃ varadābhaye | dadhānaṃ śivasadbhāvamevātmani manoharam
He is radiant like pure crystal, two-eyed, bearing the gestures of boon-giving and fearlessness—charming to behold—who holds within His own Self the very essence of Śiva’s auspicious being.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It presents a dhyāna-lakṣaṇa (meditative icon) of Shiva: His crystal-like purity signifies stainless consciousness, while boon-giving and fearlessness indicate His grace that removes bondage (pāśa) and grants liberation to the soul (paśu) under the Lord (Pati).
Though Shiva is ultimately beyond form (nirguṇa), the Purana teaches saguna-dhyāna as a compassionate support for devotees; meditating on this auspicious form steadies the mind and culminates in realizing Shiva’s essence, the same reality indicated by the Liṅga.
Practice śiva-dhyāna by visualizing Shiva as crystal-radiant with varada and abhaya mudrās while repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya); this aligns devotion (bhakti) with inner stillness (yoga) and invites Shiva’s protective grace.
