Following the procedure of the great saṅkalpa, one should here, before our revered guru, make the solemn resolve: “I shall perform the worship.” Having thus declared, one should then touch the sacred darbha grass in accordance with the rite.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga narrative; it foregrounds guru-sannidhi and formal saṅkalpa, aligning worship with right intention and lineage authorization.
Significance: Emphasizes guru-centered orthopraxy: correct resolve (saṅkalpa) and ritual purity (darbha) remove obstacles and align the paśu with Śiva’s path.
Mantra: pūjāṃ kariṣye
Role: teaching
It teaches that Shaiva worship begins with saṅkalpa—an intentional, disciplined resolve—made with reverence to the guru, aligning the devotee’s will with dharma before approaching Shiva’s worship.
Linga/Saguna Shiva worship is not merely external offering; it is grounded in correct inner orientation (saṅkalpa) and authorized tradition (guru). The verse frames the puja as a vowed act performed in a sanctified, rule-based manner.
Make a formal saṅkalpa (“I will perform the worship”), then ritually touch darbha (kuśa) as part of purification and readiness—supporting steadiness of mind and cleanliness of the rite before commencing Shiva-puja.
