sa eva śaṃkaro devassvecchayā ca svamāyayā | saṃkucadrūpa iva sanpuruṣassaṃbabhūva ha
That very Lord Śaṅkara, by His own free will and by His own Māyā, became manifest as the Supreme Person, as though assuming a contracted (limited) form.

Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Tatpuruṣa
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: creative
Cosmic Event: emanation/manifestation (ābhāsa) through māyā
It teaches that Shiva (Pati) is intrinsically free and complete, yet out of compassion He manifests through His own Māyā in an accessible ‘contracted’ form so bound souls (paśu) can relate, worship, and attain liberation.
The verse supports Saguna worship: the formless Lord can ‘appear’ in form—such as the Śiva-liṅga or a personal divine presence—without losing His transcendence, enabling devotion and ritual as valid means toward realizing the Supreme.
Meditate on Shiva as both transcendent and graciously manifest: perform liṅga-pūjā while repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), contemplating that the Lord’s form is His chosen revelation, not a limitation imposed by karma.
