O sage, one should utter and repeat it in three graded modes—soft, medium, and elevated. First, raising the Praṇava (Oṁ), one should proceed in the sequence of creation, preservation, and dissolution.
Lord Shiva (teaching a sage in the Kailasa discourse tradition)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Mantra: oṃ (praṇava) — recited in graded tones; sequence indicated: sṛṣṭi–sthiti–laya
Type: gayatri
Cosmic Event: Triadic cosmology encoded in mantra-krama (sṛṣṭi–sthiti–laya)
It teaches disciplined mantra-recitation: the seeker refines attention through three intensities of sound and contemplates the cosmic rhythm—sṛṣṭi, sthiti, and laya—leading the mind toward Shiva as the Lord (Pati) beyond all phases.
In Shaiva practice, Oṁ precedes and sanctifies worship; the Linga is revered as the stable axis of creation, maintenance, and dissolution. Meditating on these functions while reciting Praṇava supports Saguna-upāsanā and matures it toward realization of Shiva’s transcendent nature.
Perform Praṇava-japa in three levels (soft, medium, and elevated), then meditate sequentially on creation, preservation, and dissolution—using the mantra’s vibration to steady the breath and mind in a Shaiva yogic contemplation.
