Seeing him, all the sages—faces and eyes bright with joy—rose up and honored him with every courtesy, beginning with standing to receive him and other respectful services.

It highlights sadācāra—humble reverence and joyful hospitality—as a sattvic expression of bhakti; honoring the worthy becomes a means to purify the mind and align oneself with Pati (Śiva) through devotion and right conduct.
The same spirit of upacāra shown to a revered being is the attitude used in Saguna Śiva worship—treating the Liṅga as the living presence of Śiva and offering respectful services (upacāras) with inner devotion, not mere formality.
Practice upacāra-bhāva in daily Śiva-pūjā: begin with respectful “inner rising” (abhyutthāna as mental reverence), then offer simple services—water, flowers, and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya)—with a joyful, attentive mind.
