युद्धकाण्डे पञ्चनवतितमः सर्गः (Sarga 95: Lamentation in Laṅkā and the Causal Chain of Enmity)
रथश्चाश्वाश्चनागाश्चहताःशतसहस्रशः ।।।।रणेरामेणशूरेणहताश्चापिपदातयः ।
rathāś cāśvāś ca nāgāś ca hatāḥ śata-sahasraśaḥ |
raṇe rāmeṇa śūreṇa hatāś cāpi padātayaḥ ||6.95.23||
Chariots, horses, and elephants were destroyed by hundreds and thousands; and in that battle even the foot-soldiers were slain by the heroic Rāma.
"Horses, elephants, warriors, even foot soldiers were killed, chariots were destroyed, and hundreds and thousands struck down in war by Rama."
When dharma is defended, it may require decisive force against armed aggression. The verse frames Rama’s violence as battle-duty directed toward restoring moral order.
