Shloka 6.90.20

इन्द्रजित्-लक्ष्मणयुद्धम् तथा वानरप्रोत्साहनम् (Indrajit–Lakshmana Battle and the Rallying of the Vanaras)

ततस्तुकपिशार्दूलाःश्रवेन्तःश्चपुनःपुनः ।।।।मुमुचुर्विविधान्नादान्मेघान् दृष्टवेवबर्हिणः ।

tatas tu kapiśārdūlāḥ śravantaḥ ca punaḥ punaḥ |

mumucur vividhān nādān meghān dṛṣṭveva barhiṇaḥ ||

Then the tiger-like monkeys, roaring again and again, let out many kinds of cries—like peacocks upon seeing rain-clouds.

Then the tigers among monkeys again and again roaring in seeing the clouds made several kinds of sounds like peacocks.

Collective courage in a righteous cause: the simile highlights how the vānaras’ spirits rise naturally when the moment for action arrives.

The vānaras, stirred into action, roar loudly; the poet compares their cries to peacocks calling when clouds gather.
