Indrajit and Lakshmana: War-Boasts, Rebuke, and the Clash
अनुक्त्वापरुषंवाक्यंकिञ्चिदप्यनवक्षिपन् ।।।।अविकत्थन्वधिष्यामित्वांपश्यपुरुषाधम ।
anuktvā paruṣaṃ vākyaṃ kiñcid apy anavakṣipan |
avikatthan vadhiṣyāmi tvāṃ paśya puruṣādhama ||
Without uttering a harsh word, without answering back with any retort, and without boasting—I will strike you down. Watch, you lowest of men!
"Lowly Rakshasa! without any harsh words, indeed without boasting, commenting, interrupting I will assail you. You may see."
Dharma in conflict is disciplined action: Lakṣmaṇa rejects verbal excess and commits to decisive, duty-bound action rather than ego-driven speech.
After rebuking Indrajit’s boasting, Lakṣmaṇa declares he will answer not with words but with immediate martial action.
Self-restraint and resolve: controlled speech paired with firm execution of duty.
