युद्धे अङ्गद-मैन्द-द्विविद-राक्षसयुद्धम्; कुम्भस्य प्रादुर्भावः तथा सुग्रीवेण पराभवः (Sarga 76: Angada and the Vanara chiefs battle Kampana, Prajaṅgha, Yūpākṣa, Śoṇitākṣa; Kumbha enters and is checked by Sugrīva)
शोणिताक्षस्ततःक्षिप्रमसिचर्मसमाददे ।उत्पपातदिवंक्रुद्धोवेगवानविचारयन् ।।।।
śoṇitākṣas tataḥ kṣipram asicarma samādade |
utpapāta divaṃ kruddho vegavān avicārayan ||
Thereupon Śoṇitākṣa swiftly took up sword and shield, and—enraged—leapt into the sky with great speed, without hesitation.
Thereupon enraged Sonitaksha, quickly sprang up to the sky at high speed with sword and shield.
The verse implicitly warns that action driven by uncontrolled anger and rashness (avicāra) tends to eclipse discernment—an ethical contrast to dharmic conduct, which values self-command and wise judgment.
A warrior named Śoṇitākṣa reacts to the battle situation by arming himself and launching upward, signaling escalation and aggressive intent.
By contrast (through negative portrayal), the text highlights the importance of viveka (discernment) and restraint; Śoṇitākṣa’s defining trait here is impetuous rage.
