Shloka 6.70.35

त्रिशिरा–देवान्तक–महोदर–मत्त (महापार्श्व) वधः | Slaying of Trisira, Devantaka, Mahodara, and Matta (Mahaparsva)

तद्व्यर्थंशिखरंदृष्टवाद्रुमवर्षंमहाकपिः ।विससर्जरणेतस्मिन्रावणस्यसुतंप्रति ।।।।

tad vyarthaṁ śikharaṁ dṛṣṭvā drumavarṣaṁ mahākapiḥ | visasarja raṇe tasmin rāvaṇasya sutaṁ prati ||

Seeing that the hurled mountain-peak had proved futile, the great ape, in that battle, let loose a rain of trees against Rāvaṇa’s son.

Then seeing that the top of the mountain hurled was ineffective in that battle over Ravana's son, Hanuman discharged rain of trees.

Dharma in action includes discernment: when one method fails, one must respond intelligently rather than persist blindly out of pride.
