This grief-bearing result has come to me as the ripening of that deed—because I cast out Vibhīṣaṇa, who was righteous and illustrious.
Hearing that Kumbhakarna of great strength was slain, Ravana immersed in grief became deluded and fell.
A ruler’s dharma is to honor the righteous and protect truth-speakers; expelling the dharmic advisor leads to karmic consequences.
In mourning, Rāvaṇa identifies his earlier rejection of Vibhīṣaṇa as a cause whose ‘vipāka’ (ripened result) is present grief.
Vibhīṣaṇa’s integrity—being dhārmika and steadfast in truthful counsel—is foregrounded through Rāvaṇa’s regret.
