कुम्भकर्णोपदेशः — Kumbhakarna’s Counsel and War-Boast to Ravana
शतक्रतुं वधिष्यामि पास्यामि वरुणालयम् ।
पर्वतांश्चूर्णयिष्यामि दारयिष्यामि मेदिनीम् ॥6.63.54॥
śatakratuṃ vadhiṣyāmi pāsyāmi varuṇālayam |
parvatāṃś cūrṇayiṣyāmi dārayiṣyāmi medinīm ||6.63.54||
“I will slay Śatakratu (Indra); I will drink up the ocean, Varuṇa’s abode; I will grind the mountains to dust and split the earth itself.”
"O King! Now you drink wine, give up agony and start with work. Now Rama will be going to the abode of Yama sent by me. Sita will submit to you for long."।। ityārṣēvālmīkīyēśrīmadrāmāyaṇēādikāvyēyuddhakāṇḍēṣṭitamassargaḥ ।।This is the end of the sixty third sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
The verse functions as a warning-example: unrestrained pride and violence (adharma) inflate the self beyond moral limits, opposing the dharmic ideal of self-control.
Kumbhakarṇa, awakened and preparing to fight, proclaims exaggerated, world-shaking threats to display his might.
Not a virtue but a vice: arrogance and destructive rage, contrasted implicitly with dharmic restraint.
