कुम्भकर्णदर्शनम् — The Appearance of Kumbhakarna and the Account of His Might
सकुन्भकर्णंकुपितोमहेन्द्रोजघानवज्रेणशितेनवज्री ।सशक्रवज्राभिहतोमहात्माचचालकोपाच्चभृशंननाद ।।6.61.15।।
teṣu saṃbhakṣayamāṇeṣu prajā bhayanipīḍitāḥ |
yānti sma śaraṇaṃ śakraṃ tam apy arthaṃ nyavedayan ||6.61.14||
As he kept devouring them, the people—crushed by fear—went for refuge to Śakra (Indra) and reported the matter to him.
"Mahendra who was armed with thunderbolt got enraged and hurt Kumbhakarna with thunderbolt. He reeled and roared with the strike."
When society is harmed, seeking rightful protection and reporting truthfully to legitimate authority aligns with Dharma—fear is natural, but truthful appeal is righteous.
The terrified populace, suffering Kumbhakarṇa’s devouring, approaches Indra for protection and informs him of the crisis.
The people’s virtue is सत्य (truthfulness) in reporting and reliance on lawful guardianship rather than retaliatory chaos.
