The Awakening of Kumbhakarna
तमद्रिशृङ्गप्रतिमंकिरीटिनंस्पृशन्तमादित्यमिवाऽत्मतेजसा ।वनौकसःप्रेक्ष्यविवृद्धमद्भुतं 3 भयार्धितादुद्रुविरेततस्ततः ।।।।
tam adri-śṛṅga-pratimaṃ kirīṭinaṃ spṛśantam ādityam ivātma-tejasā |
vanaukasaḥ prekṣya vivṛddham adbhutaṃ bhayārditā dudruvire tatas tataḥ ||
Seeing him—crowned, like a mountain peak, as if touching the sun by his own radiance—marvelous and grown to a vast size, the vānaras, oppressed by fear, scattered and ran in all directions.
Oppressed with fear the Vanaras ran here and there seeing the form of Kumbhakarna that was like the peak of a mountain as if touching the selfluminous Sun, crowned and wonderful, grown in size.৷৷ ইত্যার্ষেবাল্মীকীযেশ্রীমদ্রামাযণেআদিকাব্যেযুদ্ধকাণ্ডেষষ্টিতমস্সর্গঃ ৷৷This is the end of the sixtieth sarga of Yuddha Kanda of the first epic the holy Ramayana composed by sage Valmiki.
Dharma calls for courage and steadiness when facing intimidation; fear is natural, but the dharmic path is to regroup under righteous guidance rather than scatter.
Kumbhakarṇa’s gigantic, radiant appearance causes the vānara ranks to break and flee in panic.
The implied virtue is fortitude (dhairya) that must be cultivated to serve a righteous cause.
