The Awakening of Kumbhakarna
यदाभृशंतैर्निनदैर्महात्मानकुम्बकर्णोबुबुधेप्रसुप्तः ।ततोमुसुण्ठीर्मुसलानिसर्वेरक्षोगणास्तेजगृहुर्गदाश्च ।।।।
yadā bhṛśaṃ tair ninadair mahātmā na kumbhakarṇo bubudhe prasuptaḥ | tato musuṇṭhīr musalāni sarve rakṣo-gaṇās te jagṛhur gadāś ca ||
But even amid those fierce cries, the great-bodied Kumbhakarṇa did not awaken from sleep. Then all those companies of rākṣasas seized mallets, clubs, and maces.
Kumbhakarna sleeping like that, could not be awakened. Angry Rakshasas roared and hit him with mallets and maces.
It highlights persistence in assigned duty: when ordinary means fail, the attendants escalate efforts to fulfill their task—though the goal serves Rāvaṇa’s war.
Noise fails to wake Kumbhakarṇa, so the rākṣasas prepare to use physical measures, taking up heavy weapons and implements.
Determination and coordinated action among the rākṣasa troops.
