Rāvaṇa’s Assault on Nīla and Lakṣmaṇa; Hanumān Bears Rāma
ततोदानवदर्पघ्नंसौमित्रिंदेवकण्टकः ।तंपीडयित्वाबाहुभ्यांनप्रभुर्लङ्घनेऽभवत् ।।6.59.113।।
tato dānavadarpaghnaṃ saumitriṃ devakaṇṭakaḥ |
taṃ pīḍayitvā bāhubhyāṃ na prabhur laṅghane 'bhavat ||6.59.113||
Then the thorn of the gods (Rāvaṇa), though crushing Saumitri with his arms, was not able to lift him—Saumitri, the breaker of the demons’ pride.
Thereafter, Ravana the enemy of Devatas was not capable of lifting Lakshmana's shoulders. Lakshmana could crush the pride of Rakshasas.
Adharma’s force fails against dharmic steadfastness: tyranny may press down, but it cannot truly ‘raise’ or carry away the righteous from their duty.
Rāvaṇa tries to overpower and lift Lakṣmaṇa after wounding him, but cannot accomplish it.
Lakṣmaṇa’s unbreakable resolve and moral weight—strength that frustrates the oppressor.
