Shloka 6.54.22
वज्रदंष्ट्रवधः — The Slaying of Vajradaṃṣṭra (Angada’s Duel)
समापतन्तंदृष्टवासरथादाप्लुत्यवीर्यवान् ।।6.54.22।।गदापाणिरसम्भ्रान्तःपृथिव्यांसमतिष्ठत ।
samāpatantaṃ dṛṣṭvā sa rathād āplutya vīryavān |
gadā-pāṇir asambhrāntaḥ pṛthivyāṃ samatiṣṭhata ||6.54.22||
Seeing it rushing toward him, the valiant one leapt down from his chariot; mace in hand and unshaken, he took his stand upon the ground.
The valiant Rakshasa who was not perplexed with mace in hand leaping down the chariot looking (at the hillock hurled) sat on the ground.
Self-mastery in crisis: steadiness and readiness are part of righteous conduct, preventing cowardice and preventing rash, uncontrolled violence.
As Aṅgada’s massive projectile bears down, Vajradaṃṣṭra dismounts from his chariot and prepares to meet the attack on foot with a mace.
