सीताविलापः—त्रिजटासान्त्वनं च (Sita’s Lament and Trijata’s Consolation)
ऊचुर्लक्षणिकायेमांपुत्रिण्यविधवेतिच ।तेऽद्यसर्वेहतेरामेज्ञानिनोऽनृतवादिनः ।।।।
ūcur lakṣaṇikā emāṁ putriṇīm avidhaveti ca | te 'dya sarve hate rāme jñānino 'nṛtavādinaḥ ||
The soothsayers said of me, “She will bear sons; she will not become a widow.” But if Rāma has been slain today, then all those “wise men” have proved to be speakers of falsehood.
"Whoever was capable of predicting the future have said that I will be the mother of sons and not become a widow. Now if Rama is dead, they become liars."
It foregrounds satya (truth) as a moral touchstone: claims to knowledge must be accountable to truth, and grief tests what one trusts—prophecy, rumor, or dharmic confidence.
Sītā, overwhelmed by the report of Rāma’s death, recalls earlier predictions about her future and declares them false if the report is true.
Sītā’s commitment to truth and moral consistency—she measures words by reality, not by status or reputation of the speakers.
