Shloka 6.47.20

पुष्पकविमानेन सीताया युद्धभूमिदर्शनम् (Sita Shown the Battlefield in the Pushpaka)

ततस्सीताददर्शोभौशयानौशरतल्पगौ ।लक्ष्मणंचापिरामंचविसंज्ञौशरपीडितौ ।।6.47.19।।विध्वस्तकवचौवीरौविप्रविद्धशरासनौ ।सायकैचशिन्नसर्वाङ्गौशरस्तम्बमयौक्षितौ ।।6.47.20।।

vidhvasta-kavacau vīrau vipraviddha-śarāsanau | sāyakaiś chinna-sarvāṅgau śara-stamba-mayau kṣitau ||6.47.20||

Their armor shattered and bows flung away, the two heroes lay on the ground, limbs torn by arrows, appearing as if made of arrow-thickets.

Thereafter Sita beheld both Rama and Lakshmana lying on the bed of arrows, unconscious, struck by arrows, with shields of darts, arrows with feathers, all limbs wounded with shattered armour, bows and reeds.

Dharma is tested under suffering: even the righteous may endure extreme affliction, reminding the reader that moral worth is not measured by uninterrupted success.

Sītā is being made to witness Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa in a grievously wounded state, a scene intended to break her resolve.

For Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, steadfast endurance; for the narrative, the dignity of dharma even when the body is overwhelmed.
