In that darkness, hard to pass through, the rākṣasas—senseless with wrath—ranged about at great speed, devouring the vānaras.

The Rakshasa waging war in invisible form with all beings by his supernatural powers fought with both the brothers, Rama and Lakshmana and bound them in a network of arrows.

Unrestrained anger destroys dharma: when rage overpowers reason, violence turns indiscriminate and cruel, shown here by the rākṣasas’ devouring attack.

During the night battle, rākṣasas roam rapidly in the darkness and prey upon vānaras.

The implied virtue is self-mastery (indriya-nigraha); its absence is depicted as krodha-mūrcchā—anger-induced loss of judgment.
