माल्यवानुपदेशः — Malyavan’s Counsel, Portents in Laṅkā, and the Proposal of Alliance
गृहाणांबलिकर्माणिश्वानःपर्युपभुञ्जते ।खरागोषुप्रजायन्तेमूषकानकुलैस्सह ।।।।
gṛhāṇāṃ balikarmāṇi śvānaḥ paryupabhuñjate | kharā goṣu prajāyante mūṣakā nakulaiḥ saha ||
In the houses, dogs consume the food-offerings meant for worship; among the cows, donkeys are born, and rats are born together with mongooses—signs of nature’s inversion and impending calamity.
"In the houses, food offerings made for gods are eaten by dogs, donkeys are procreating cows and rats of mongoose."
Dharma is sustaining order—ritual, social, and moral. When offerings are desecrated and nature appears inverted, it signals a breach of righteousness demanding correction.
A catalogue of unsettling portents is being presented as evidence that Laṅkā is under a shadow of doom.
Discernment (viveka): recognizing disorder as a prompt to return to right conduct.
