सीताया अग्निप्रवेशः (Sita’s Ordeal by Fire / Agni-Pariksha)
न तथास्मिमहाबाहो यथामामवगच्छसि ।प्रत्ययंगच्छमेस्वेनचारित्रेणैवतेशपे ।।।।
na tathāsmi mahābāho yathā mām avagacchasi | pratyayaṃ gaccha me svena cāritreṇaiva te śape ||
O mighty-armed one, I am not as you imagine me to be; be assured of me through my own conduct—I swear it to you by my character.
"O Mighty armed! I am not as you think of me, so also show me a proof of it in my past. I swear on my past."
Satya is grounded in lived conduct (cāritra): moral truth is not merely claimed but demonstrated through consistent character and accountability.
Sītā answers suspicion by asserting that her life and conduct themselves are the evidence of her purity.
Integrity (śīla) and truthfulness—Sītā appeals to her moral record rather than anger or manipulation.
