As those two fierce bowmen fought at once, hurling arrows upon each other like Yama and Antaka, all beings were struck with terror—as though at the world’s final crisis.
Then the sky overcast with arrows of different kinds seemed like clouds with flashes of lightning.
The verse reminds that adharma escalates conflict into cosmic terror; dharma’s role is to restore order so that the world is not ruled by fear and destruction.
The duel reaches an awe-inspiring, frightening intensity, described through cosmic and death-deity comparisons.
Rama’s unwavering courage is implied by his capacity to stand in a battle likened to death itself.
