Shloka 5.64.17

अङ्गद-प्रत्यागमनम् — Angada’s Return and the Confirmation of Sītā’s Discovery

एवं वक्ष्यति को राजन् प्रभुस्सन्वानरर्षभ।ऐश्वर्यमदमत्तो हि सर्वोऽहमिति मन्यते।।।।

evaṃ vakṣyati ko rājan prabhuḥ san vānararṣabha | aiśvaryamada-matto hi sarvo 'ham iti manyate ||

O king—bull among vānaras—who, though a lord, would speak like this? For one intoxicated by power and prosperity commonly thinks, ‘I am everything.’

"O king! O bull among monkeys! we think you are an exception to those to whom prosperity brings arrogance.

Dharma warns against arrogance born of power; true righteousness in leadership is humility even when one has authority.

The vānaras respond to Angada’s speech by praising him as exceptional—unlike rulers who become proud through success.
