Shloka 5.53.3

लाङ्गूलदाह-पर्यटनम् (The Burning Tail and the Parade through Laṅkā)

कपीनां किल लाङ्गूलमिष्टं भवति भूषणम्।तदस्य दीप्यतां शीघ्रं तेन दग्धेन गच्छतु।।5.53.3।।

yadi kiñcid anukrośas tasya mayy asti dhīmataḥ ||5.53.29|| yadi vā bhāgyaśeṣo me śīto bhava hanūmataḥ |

“If wise Rāma has even a little compassion for me—if any remnant of good fortune still remains for me—then, O Fire, be cool toward Hanumān.”

"The tail is dear to the monkeys and it is an ornament for them. Set fire to it at once and let him go with his burning tail.

Dharma appears as compassionate responsibility: Sītā’s concern is not for revenge but for the safety of the messenger who serves a righteous cause.

As Hanumān’s tail is ignited by the rākṣasas, Sītā inwardly prays that the fire will not harm him.

Sītā’s karuṇā (compassion) and steadfast trust in Rāma’s righteousness and cosmic order.
