समुद्रलङ्घनारम्भः — Commencement of the Ocean-Crossing
प्लवमानं तु तं दृष्ट्वा सिंहिका नाम राक्षसी।मनसा चिन्तयामास प्रवृद्धा कामरूपिणी।।।।
plavamānaṃ tu taṃ dṛṣṭvā siṃhikā nāma rākṣasī |
manasā cintayāmāsa pravṛddhā kāmarūpiṇī ||
Seeing him speeding through the sky, a rākṣasī named Siṃhikā—able to assume forms at will—swelled in size and began to plot in her mind.
Seeing Hanuman speeding in the sky a demoness called Simhika who can assume any form at her will had grown out of proportion and thought on her part:
The verse contrasts dharma with adharma: Hanuman proceeds on a righteous mission, while Siṃhikā responds with predatory intent, illustrating how dharmic journeys attract adharmic obstacles.
Simhika spots Hanuman in flight and prepares to intercept him using her supernatural abilities.
Indirectly, Hanuman’s fearlessness is highlighted—he continues openly—while Simhika embodies deceit and predation.
