समुद्रलङ्घनारम्भः — Commencement of the Ocean-Crossing

एवमुक्ता हनुमता सुरसा कामरूपिणी।अब्रवीन्नातिवर्तेन्मां कश्चिदेष वरो मम।।।।

evam uktā hanumatā surasā kāmarūpiṇī | abravīn nātivartet māṃ kaścid eṣa varo mama ||

Thus addressed by Hanumān, Surasā—able to assume forms at will—replied: “No one may pass beyond me; such is the boon granted to me.”

Having heard Hanuman, Surasa capable of taking any form at her free will told him that no one can cross (her region) as she had been given such a boon(by theCreator)৷৷

Dharma includes fidelity to one’s ordained role: Surasā cites a boon as her binding duty, setting up a righteous “test” rather than mere hostility.

Surasā responds to Hanumān’s request by declaring that her boon requires travelers to face her condition and not simply bypass her.

Adherence to a given charge—Surasā’s commitment to the constraint of her boon.
