सम्पातिदर्शनम् (Encounter with Sampāti) — Angada’s Lament and the Vulture-King’s Response
जटायुषो विनाशेन राज्ञो दशरथस्य च।।।।हरणेन च वैदेह्या स्संशयं हरयो गताः।
jaṭāyuṣo vināśena rājño daśarathasya ca |
haraṇena ca vaidehyāḥ saṃśayaṃ harayo gatāḥ ||
By the death of Jaṭāyu, by the passing of King Daśaratha, and by the abduction of Vaidehī, the monkeys have fallen into grave uncertainty about their very survival.
'The survival of monkeys has become doubtful due to the death of Jatayu, death of king Dasaratha and the abduction of the princess from Videha.
When dharma is violated (Sītā’s abduction) and dharmic protectors fall (Jaṭāyu, Daśaratha), communities aligned with dharma face instability; the verse highlights the cascading social consequences of adharma.
The Vanaras explain their desperation: multiple tragedies surrounding Rāma have led them into a life-or-death predicament, unsure whether they can return alive after failing the mission.
Solidarity in crisis—remaining committed to Rāma’s cause despite overwhelming uncertainty.
