Shloka 4.40.63

पूर्वदिशि सीतामार्गण-नियोगः (Deployment to the Eastern Quarter for the Search of Sita)

पूर्वमेतत्कृतं द्वारं पृथिव्या भुवनस्य च।।4.40.63।।सूर्यस्योदयनं चैव पर्वा ह्येषा दिगुच्यते।

pūrvam etat kṛtaṃ dvāraṃ pṛthivyā bhuvanasya ca | sūryasyodayanaṃ caiva parvā hy eṣā dig ucyate ||

This is the eastern ‘gate’ made for the earth and for the world; and since the Sun rises here, this quarter is indeed called the East.

'Here is the entrance for the earth as well as for all the worlds and since the Sun also rises from this place it is called the eastern direction.
