Shloka 4.4.8

हनूमद्-दूत्यम् / Hanuman’s Mediation and Lakshmana’s Appeal to Sugriva

तस्यायं पूर्वजः पुत्रो रामो नाम जनैः श्रुतः।।।।शरण्यस्सर्वभूतानां पितुर्निर्देशपारगः।

tasyāyaṃ pūrvajaḥ putro rāmo nāma janaiḥ śrutaḥ || śaraṇyaḥ sarvabhūtānāṃ pitur nirdeśapāragaḥ |

This is his eldest son, named Rāma, renowned among the people—a refuge for all beings, and one who flawlessly carried out his father’s commands.

'Here is his eldest son, popularly known as Rama. He is the protector of all beings and never failed his father's instructions.

Satya and obedience to rightful authority: Rāma’s dharma is shown in unwavering fidelity to his father’s word and in being a refuge to others.

Lakṣmaṇa identifies Rāma and highlights his public reputation and defining virtues.
