कृतघ्ननिन्दा तथा सुग्रीवप्रबोधनम्
Condemnation of Ingratitude and Admonition of Sugriva
स त्वं ग्राम्येषु भोगेषु सक्तो मिथ्याप्रतिश्रवः।न त्वां रामो विजानीते सर्पं मण्डूकराविणम्।।।।
sa tvaṃ grāmyeṣu bhogeṣu sakto mithyā-pratiśravaḥ |
na tvāṃ rāmo vijānīte sarpaṃ maṇḍūka-rāviṇam ||
But you, absorbed in coarse pleasures and bound by false promises—Rāma did not recognize you for what you are: a serpent that only seeks notice by croaking like a frog.
'O Sugriva! the path by which Vali went is not closed.I wish you do not follow him. You stand by the promise made.
Satya (truthfulness) is a pillar of dharma; making promises and failing them—while indulging in pleasure—is portrayed as deceptive and spiritually dangerous.
Lakṣmaṇa denounces Sugrīva’s delay and indulgence, implying that Rāma’s earlier trust misjudged Sugrīva’s character.
Integrity—being reliable in word and deed, rather than performative speech.
