किष्किन्धाकाण्डे द्वात्रिंशः सर्गः — Lakshmana’s Anger Reported; Hanuman Advises Propitiation and Timely Mobilization
अत्र तावद्यथाबुद्धि सर्वैरेव यथाविधि।भावस्य निश्चयस्तावद्विज्ञेयो निपुणं शनैः।।
ato nimittaṃ trasto 'haṃ rāmeṇa tu mahātmanā | yan mayopakṛtaṃ śakyaṃ pratikartuṃ na tan mayā ||
For this reason I feel anxious before the great-souled Rāma: the help he has done for me is something I am unable to repay in return.
'In the meanwhile, (right now) all of you should think quietly and try to know the reason (for Lakshmana's anger), using your intellect and expertise logically and decide( the course of action).
Gratitude (kṛtajñatā) is dharma: one must remember benefaction and strive to repay it through loyal action and truthfulness.
Sugriva fears that he has failed in his duty to reciprocate Rāma’s support, prompting Lakṣmaṇa’s anger.
