ताराविलापः — Tara’s Lament over Vāli

O son, look well upon your father—one who is devoted to dharma. Dear child, for you his sight will soon become hard to obtain.

'O lord! you have set out on a long journey. Kiss your son on the forehead, enjoy its sweet smell, console him and give him your message.

Dharma here is filial responsibility and mindful presence: honouring one’s parent—especially at the edge of death—by giving them full attention and respect.

With Vāli dying, Tārā urges their son Aṅgada to look upon his father one last time.

Aṅgada is called toward filial reverence; Vāli is remembered as ‘dharmavatsala’—a person with attachment to righteousness.
