Shloka 1.76.15

बालकाण्डे षट्सप्ततितमः सर्गः — Rāma Subdues Paraśurāma; the Vaiṣṇava Arrow Is Discharged

तदिमां त्वं गतिं वीर हन्तुं नार्हसि राघव।मनोजवं गमिष्यामि महेन्द्रं पर्वतोत्तमम्।।।।

tad imāṃ tvaṃ gatiṃ vīra hantuṃ nārhasi rāghava | manojavaṃ gamiṣyāmi mahendraṃ parvatottamam ||

Therefore, O heroic Rāghava, you should not destroy this power of movement in me; I shall depart with mind-like speed to Mahendra, best of mountains.

For this, you should not destroy my mobility, O valiant son of the Raghus!. I shall go to Mahendra, the best of mountains, with the speed of mind.

Dharma as proportionality: even when victorious, one should not inflict unnecessary deprivation; restraint is part of righteous power.

Paraśurāma, subdued, requests that Rāma not strip him of mobility and announces his departure to Mahendra.

Rāma’s expected dayā (compassion) and maryādā (measured conduct) in dealing with a defeated opponent.
