त्रिशङ्कुशापः — Trishanku’s Curse and Appeal to Viśvāmitra

प्रत्याख्यातोऽस्मि गुरुणा गुरुपुत्रैस्तथैव च।।।।अन्यां गतिं गमिष्यामि स्वस्ति वोऽस्तु तपोधना:।

pratyākhyāto 'smi guruṇā guruputrais tathaiva ca |

anyāṃ gatiṃ gamiṣyāmi svasti vo 'stu tapodhanāḥ ||

I have been turned away by my guru—and likewise by the guru’s sons. I will seek another course. May welfare be yours, O ascetics whose wealth is tapas.

"O Men endowed with the wealth of asceticism I was rejected by my guru and now by his sons. I shall seek another way. Farewell to you".

G
guru (Vasiṣṭha, implied)
G
guruputras (sons of Vasiṣṭha)
T
tapodhanas (ascetics)

Even in conflict, one should speak with basic civility (svasti) and recognize ascetic standing; yet the verse also marks a risky ethical move: seeking an ‘alternate path’ after rightful refusal.

The king, refused by Vasiṣṭha and his sons, declares he will pursue another means to achieve his aim.

Courtesy in speech is retained, but determination bordering on obstinacy is highlighted as the driving trait.
