शतानन्दोपदेशः — Śatānanda’s Welcome to Rāma and the Prelude to Viśvāmitra’s History
अपि शान्तेन मनसा गुरुर्मे कुशिकात्मज ।इहाऽगतेन रामेण प्रयतेनाभिवादित:।।।।
api śāntena manasā gurur me kuśikātmaja | ihāgatena rāmeṇa prayatenābhivāditaḥ ||
O son of Kuśika, was my father respectfully saluted by Rāma—who came here disciplined and devout—doing so with a tranquil mind?
O Kushika's son! did pious Rama welcome my father with a tranquil mind when he arrived?"
Dharma is disciplined reverence: greeting elders with inner calm (śānta-manas) and outward humility (abhivādana) rather than mere formality.
Daśaratha seeks confirmation that Rāma, upon arriving, greeted the royal elder properly—showing that Rāma’s conduct aligns with tradition and righteousness.
Praśānti and vinaya—tranquil self-mastery joined to humble respect.
