शतानन्दोपदेशः — Śatānanda’s Welcome to Rāma and the Prelude to Viśvāmitra’s History
अपि कौशिक भद्रं ते गुरुणा मम सङ्गता।मम माता मुनिश्रेष्ठ रामसन्दर्शनादित:।।।।
api kauśika bhadraṁ te guruṇā mama saṅgatā |
mama mātā muniśreṣṭha rāma-sandarśanāditaḥ ||
O Kauśika, may auspiciousness be yours. O best of sages—has my mother been reunited with my father, as a consequence of beholding Rāma?
O Son of Kushika (Viswamitra)! be blessed. O the best among the ascetics, as a result of beholding Rama, was my mother united with my father?
Dharma culminates in restoration: after wrongdoing and penance, rightful relationships may be re-established. The verse points to reconciliation grounded in truth, purification, and divine grace mediated through Rāma’s presence.
Śatānanda asks whether Ahalyā’s sight of Rāma has resulted in her reunion with her husband Gautama, signaling the lifting of her curse and return to dhārmic household order.
Kṣamā and śuddhi—forgiveness and purification—implied in the possibility of reunion after a period of severe consequence and austerity.
