Shloka 1.43.13

गङ्गावतरणम् (The Descent of the Gaṅgā and Bhagiratha’s Fulfilment)

सुचक्षुश्चैव सीता च सिन्धुश्चैव महानदी।तिस्रस्त्वेता दिशं जग्मु: प्रतीचीं तु शुभोदका:।।।।

atha saṃvatsare pūrṇe sarvalokanamaskṛtaḥ | umāpatiḥ paśupati rājānam idam abravīt ||

When a full year had passed, Paśupati—Umā’s lord, revered by all the worlds—addressed the king with these words.

Auspicious Suchakshu, Sita and a great river Sindhu, these three great rivers flowed westwards.

Dharma here is perseverance in righteous purpose: sustained tapas and truthful resolve draw divine attention and guidance.

After Bhagīratha’s long austerities, Śiva responds at the completion of a year and begins to speak to him.

Bhagīratha’s steadfastness (dhṛti) and commitment to a righteous ancestral duty.
