तृतीयः सर्गः (Bālakāṇḍa 3): Vālmīki’s Yogic Verification and the Epic Synopsis
प्रकृतीनां विषादं च प्रकृतीनां विसर्जनम् ।निषादाधिपसंवादं सूतोपावर्तनं तथा ।।।।
prakṛtīnāṃ viṣādaṃ ca prakṛtīnāṃ visarjanam |
niṣādādhipa-saṃvādaṃ sūtopāvartanaṃ tathā ||
He described the grief of Ayodhyā’s people, Rāma’s parting from them, his conversation with Guha, the Niṣāda chief, and the charioteer Sumantra returning.
(He described) the grief of people of Ayodhya and his (Rama's) abandoning them and his (Rama's) conversation with Guha, the ruler of nishadas, the charioteer (Sumantra)'s return (after leaving Rama in the forest).
Dharma includes compassion and responsibility: the bond between ruler and people is heartfelt, yet duty may require separation without abandoning righteousness.
As Rāma leaves for exile, the citizens grieve; he parts from them, meets Guha by the river, and Sumantra returns to Ayodhyā.
Rāma’s empathy and composure—honoring relationships while proceeding firmly along the path of duty.
