ताटकावृत्तान्तः — The Account of Tāṭakā and the Royal Duty to Protect
कस्यचित्त्वथ कालस्य यक्षी पुत्रमजायत।मारीचं नाम दुर्धर्षं यश्शापाद्राक्षसोऽभवत्।।।।
kasyacit tv atha kālasya yakṣī putram ajāyata |
mārīcaṃ nāma durdharṣaṃ yaḥ śāpād rākṣaso 'bhavat ||
After some time, that Yakṣī bore a son—unassailable, named Mārīca—who, because of a curse, became a Rākṣasa.
After some time that yakshini gave birth to an unassailable son by name Maricha. Because of a curse, he became a rakshasa (though born of yaksha parentage).
Actions and moral ruptures can lead to transformative consequences (śāpa as a narrative form of karmic result), altering one’s nature and destiny.
Viśvāmitra introduces Mārīca as Tāṭakā’s son and notes his change into a rākṣasa due to a curse.
