ताटकावृत्तान्तः — The Account of Tāṭakā and the Royal Duty to Protect
ददौ नागसहस्रस्य बलं चास्या: पितामह:।नत्वेव पुत्रं यक्षाय ददौ ब्रह्मा महायशा:।।।।
dadau nāgasahasrasya balaṃ cāsyāḥ pitāmahaḥ |
na tv eva putraṃ yakṣāya dadau brahmā mahāyaśāḥ ||
That illustrious Brahmā, the Grandsire, granted her the strength of a thousand elephants; yet he did not grant a son to that Yakṣa.
The illustrious grandsire Brahma granted her the strength of a thousand elephants,but did not bestow a son on the yaksha.
Dharma includes restraint and proportion: even divine giving has boundaries, suggesting that unchecked power is moderated by cosmic order.
Viśvāmitra continues Tāṭakā’s backstory, describing Brahmā’s boon of immense strength and the refusal to grant a son to the Yakṣa.
Brahmā’s discernment—granting might while withholding what is not ordained—reflects measured governance of boons.
