दशरथस्य शोकानुचिन्तनं शब्धवेधि-दोषस्मरणं च (Daśaratha’s grief, karmic reflection, and the remembered ‘śabdavedhī’ misdeed)
इयमेकपदी राजन्यतो मे पितुराश्रमः।तं प्रसादय गत्वा त्वं न त्वां स कुपितश्शपेत्।।2.63.47।।
iyam ekapadī rājan yato me pitur āśramaḥ |
taṃ prasādaya gatvā tvaṃ na tvāṃ sa kupitaḥ śapet ||2.63.47||
O king, this narrow footpath leads to my father’s hermitage. Go there and seek his forgiveness, so that he, enraged, may not curse you.
'O king, this footpath leads to my father's hermitage. Go and beg his forgiveness so that he may not curse you out of anger.
It teaches prāyaścitta in practice: approach the wronged party, speak truth, and seek reconciliation rather than fleeing consequences.
Śravaṇa directs the king to his father’s āśrama and advises him to appease the grieving ascetic to avoid a curse.
Guidance rooted in righteousness: Śravaṇa offers the king a path toward accountability even after a grave mistake.
