Shloka 2.62.12
अयोध्याकाण्डे द्विषष्टितमः सर्गः — Kausalyā consoles Daśaratha; grief, remorse, and nightfall
प्रसीद शिरसा याचे भूमौ निपतितास्मि ते।याचितास्मि हता देव क्षन्तव्याऽहं न हि त्वया।।।।
prasīda śirasā yāce bhūmau nipatitāsmi te | yācitāsmi hatā deva kṣantavyāhaṃ na hi tvayā || 2.62.12 ||
Be gracious, my lord—I beg with bowed head; I have fallen to the ground before you. Yet, O king, I have been wounded by having to plead; I am not, indeed, one who should need to be forgiven by you.
O lord, by falling on the ground at your feet, bowing my head I beg of you to be pleased. By your act of beseeching me, I have been badly hurt. I do deserve to be pardoned.
It presents the dharma of dignity and mutual respect in marriage: Kausalya seeks peace, yet laments that circumstances have inverted proper roles, forcing her into humiliating supplication.
Kausalya, shaken by Dasharatha’s misery, falls at his feet and pleads for his favor while expressing how deeply the situation has hurt her.
Kausalya’s sincerity and moral self-respect are emphasized—she apologizes, but also articulates the injustice she feels.
