अयोध्यावासिजनानुरागः — The People and Brahmins Follow Rama toward Exile
या प्रीतिर्बहुमानश्च मय्ययोध्यानिवासिनाम्।मत्प्रियार्थं विशेषेण भरते सा निवेश्यताम्।।।।
sa hi kalyāṇa-cāritraḥ kaikeyy-ānanda-vardhanaḥ |
kariṣyati yathāvad vaḥ priyāṇi ca hitāni ca ||
“For Bharata is of noble conduct, a joy to Kaikeyī; he will duly do for you what is both pleasing and truly beneficial.”
O citizens of Ayodhya may the love and respect you have shown to please me be bestowed specially on Bharata!
Dharma of rulership is defined as doing what is both pleasant (priya) and genuinely welfare-bearing (hita), not merely what is popular.
Rāma reassures the citizens that Bharata will govern properly and care for their welfare.
Bharata’s righteous disposition and suitability for kingship, presented as reliable for public good.
