Shloka 2.41.18
अयोध्यायाः शोकप्रकम्पः (Ayodhya’s Tremor of Grief and Omens)
न वाति पवन श्शीतो न शशी सौम्यदर्शनः।न सूर्यस्तपते लोकं सर्वं पर्याकुलं जगत्।।2.41.18।।
na vāti pavanaḥ śīto na śaśī saumyadarśanaḥ | na sūryas tapate lokaṃ sarvaṃ paryākulaṃ jagat || 2.41.18 ||
The wind did not blow cool; the moon no longer looked gentle; the sun did not warm the world—everything in the world seemed unsettled.
The breeze did not blow cool. No more did the Moon look pleasant. The Sun did not give warmth to the world. All the world was agitated.
It suggests that dharma is experienced as harmony (cool wind, gentle moon, warming sun). When righteousness is strained by injustice and separation, harmony is poetically portrayed as withdrawn.
The narration intensifies Ayodhya’s sorrow by describing nature itself as failing to provide comfort after Rama’s departure.
Rama’s auspicious presence is implied: his absence corresponds to a loss of soothing, life-supporting qualities in the environment.
