Truly, by your very nature you are courteous and endowed with virtues; yet, my son, even to one so virtuous I will speak what is beneficial to you—out of affection.
With humility, always keep your senses under control. Keep off all violations arising out of lust and anger.
Even the virtuous should accept guidance with humility; affectionate counsel is part of sustaining dharma, especially for one preparing for responsibility.
Daśaratha, preparing Rāma for royal duties, begins a sequence of counsel—praising his nature yet still advising him for his welfare.
Rāma’s innate vinaya (courtesy/discipline) and the king’s parental, dharmic concern expressed through loving instruction.
